Klessig, Caroline (17 Jan. 1872 – 22 May 1949)

* Mrs. Christ Klessig, age 77, whose husband died last month, died at 6:00 a.m. Sunday at the home farm in the town of Hoard, Curtiss, where her son in law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Hugo Kobs now reside. She had been in poor health for some time and suffered a stroke last week Tuesday. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Curtiss Evangelical and Reformed church, Rev. F. P. Puhlmann officiating, and internment was made in the Pine Hill cemetery. Pall bearers were Kenneth and John Kobs, Norman Marquardt, Ely and Gerald Klessig and Clarence Lemmer.

Mrs. Klessig, the former Caroline Schleiman, was born in Germany January 17, 1872, and came to America when a young girl. She was married at Rantoul, Calumet county on November 3, 1891, to Christ Klessig, who died April 20 of this year. The Klessigs had moved to their present farm in 1902.

Surviving are three daughters and five sons, Mrs. Herman (Alma) Marquardt, Rothschild, Mrs. Hugo (Ella) Kobs, Curtiss, Mrs. Albert (Dorothy) Mandel, Colby; Albert and William Klessig, Curtiss; Helmuth Klessig, Louisburg, Tenn.; Raymond Klessig, Adak, Alaska; and Harold Klessig, Colby.

* Christ Klessig of Curtiss passed away early Wednesday morning, April 20, at the age of 85 years at the home of his daughter and son in law, Mr. and Mrs. Hugo Kobs, the old home farm. He had been an invalid the past ten years following a stroke but was able to be up every day until last Sunday. The body will be at the home from Friday to Saturday noon when it will be brought to the Peace Ev. and Reformed church where funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 o’clock, Rev. Franz Puhlmann officiating, and burial will be made in Pine Hill cemetery.

The deceased was born on April 22, 1861, in Morel, Sheboygan county. On Nov. 3, 1891, he was married to Cardine Schliemann at Rantaul, Calumet county. The family moved to Hoard in 1902.

Surviving are his wife, three daughters, Mrs. Herman (Alma) Marquardt of Rothschild; Mrs. Alfred (Dorothy) Mandel of Colby, Mrs. Hugo (Ella) Kobs of Curtiss, five sons, Albert and William of Curtiss, Helmuth of Louisburg, Tenn., Harold of Colby and Raymond of Adak, Alaska. There are 13 grand children and four great grand children.


Klessig, Mary (9 July 1887 – 21 June 1934)

* Mrs. Albert Klessig died at her home at Curtiss last Thursday at the age of forty-six years, cancer being the cause of her departure. Funeral services were conducted Monday at the Curtiss Reformed church, Rev. H. K. Hartmann of Colby officiating and internment was made in the Green Grove cemetery. Pall bearers were Albert Mandel, Hugo Kobs, Herman Marquardt, Raymond Klessig, Harold Klessig and Franklin Kraut. Flower girls were Ethel, Wilma and Dorothy Kraut, Ethel Erickson, Marie Aldinger, Veleta Kraut, Maxine Marquardt and Mernabel Laabs.

Mrs. Klessig was born Mary Kraut, in Austria, on July 9th, 1887, and came to this vicinity with her parents, when she was five years of age. She lived continuously on the Kraut farm for twenty-four years, her husband having rented the farm after their marriage on June 1920.

She was president of the ladies’ aid of the Reformed church and a member of the American Legion auxiliary at Owen.

Surviving relatives include her husband, her mother, Mrs. Joseph Kraut Sr., a sister, Bertha, and two brothers, Frank and Arthur, all at Curtiss, and a brother Leo, at Stephenson, Mich. A nephew, Andor Kraut, 9, who has been cared for by Mr. and Mrs. Kleissig since infancy, also survives.
