Mrs. Elizabeth Mais, 65, died at a hospital in Tucson, Arizona, Monday morning at 4:20. Mrs. Mais, the former Mrs. Elizabeth Brehm, was married to Paul Mais of Unity in October, 1939.

Mr. Mais died suddenly while they were taking a trip thru the East on October 6, 1946 in Pennsylvania.

Mrs. Mais remained in Unity for about a year and then returned to Medford where she had been a laboratory technician for many years. She left about three months ago for a visit with relatives in Texas and Arizona.

Funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth Mais, 65, a former Unity resident who died at Tucson, Ariz., a week ago, were held at Medford Friday morning with burial in St. Anne’s cemetery, town of Greenwood.

Attending from Unity were Mr. and Mrs. Orville Schultz.

* Funeral services for John G. Mais, a former Colbyite whose death was reported last week, were held at the Pflughoeft & Hartwig funeral home at Medford at 2:00 o’clock Thursday afternoon, Rev. E. P. Arpin of the Christian Science church of Wisconsin Rapids officiating, and internment was made in the Spencer cemetery. Pall bearers were Reuben Stimm, Ewald Freeck, John Miller, all of Medford, Harry Bodle, Herman Metsger, Spencer, and Wayne Shookman, Junction City.

The deceased was born at Two Rivers, Wis., December 11th, 1874, and when a small boy moved to Unity with his parents. He attended high school there and later taught school for five years. While working at the depot at Colby, he learned telegraphy and following this he was employed for thirty years by the Soo Line as operator and agent. He was married to Miss Eska Burnett at Unity June 6th, 1900. He was a resident of Spencer for nine years before moving to Medford in 1923. He was ill for six months which developed into uremic poisoning.

Surviving are his widow, five children, Lester of Neenah, Maurice of Ishpeming, Mich., Maybelle, Geraldine and Lucille, at home. Also his parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. Mais of Colby, his brother, Paul of Unity, and two sisters, Mrs. H. J. Welsch of Colby and Mrs. Chas. Frome of Manitowoc.

* A Requiem High Mass was read at 9:30 o’clock Saturday morning at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Colby, for Paul J. Mais, 61, Unity, who died of a heart attack at 7 p.m. Oct. 8 while visiting in Pittsburg, Pa.

The Rev. Nicholas Beschta had charge of the rites at the church and at the service which preceded at the Lulloff Funeral Home. Interment took place in the Colby cemetery.

Mr. Mais was born May 31, 1881 in Two Rivers, Wisconsin. He moved to Clark County with his parents in 1885. He was married to Anna Huber on October 25, 1905 and she passed away November 4, 1919, and on October 2, 1939 he married Elizabeth Brehm.

In 1905 he bought the farm just 4 miles west of Unity and made it his home until September 1926, when he became interested in the insurance business which he made his career for the past twenty years.

In 1941 he suffered a severe attack of coronary thrombosis and since then he realized he was living with a damaged heart. On Sunday, October 6, he suffered another attack and on Tuesday, when the family had hopes he would recover and were making plans to move him as far as Chicago, he suddenly took a turn for the worse at 6:00 p.m. and died at 8:10 p.m. He had a happy death, being conscious the full two hours, resigned and contented, knowing he had lived his life.

His nearest survivors are his wife, and three daughters, Lauretta, Marie and Beatrice and one son: Hubert. Another daughter preceded him in death.

He also leaves to mourn two sisters, Mrs. H. J. Welch of Colby and Mrs. Charles Frome, Manitowoc; his brother John Mais of Medford preceding him in death. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren, Dennis and Terrance Cox; Patricia, Theresa and John Collins of Chicago; Daniel Lane of Glen Ellyn and Richard, Paul and Claudia Ann Mais of Tyler, Texas.

Pallbearers at the funeral were: Sylvester, Melvin and Bernard Tennis, Tony Will, Ed Feit and Herb Kanter.

Flower girls were Jessie and Edna Tennis, Evelyn Will and Margaret Steinwand.
