Nickel, Anna Charlotte Dorothy (26 Sept. 1861 – 27 Mar. 1935)

Mrs. George Nickel died at the home of her son, Leonard, in the town of Brighton, four and a half miles east of Unity, Wednesday night, March 27, at six o’clock. Funeral services were held Sunday at the Trinity Lutheran church at Unity, Rev. J. A. Olson officiating, and internment was made in the church cemetery. The deceased had been ill since Nov. 13, 1934. Pall bearers were J. Luchterhand, J. Koch, C. Runge, O. Perschke, A. Wiede, Mr. Willecke. Those in charge of the flowers were Mrs. H. Kops, Mrs. Elsie Purkis, Mrs. Leffel, Sr., Mrs. Koch, Mrs. Willecke, Mrs. August Perschke, Mrs. Sam Stark, Mrs. P. Luchterhand. Their golden wedding was celebrated May 8, 1934.

Anna Charlotte Dorothy Wieland was born in Germany September 26, 1861, and emigrated to Milwaukee in 1879. She moved to Spencer later and was married there May 8, 1884, to George Nickel of Unity. They located on a farm east of Unity in the town of Brighton, and in 1915 retired from farming and located in the village of Unity. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran church and was an honorary member of the ladies’ aid society. She is survived by her widower, one son, Len Nickel, of the town of Brighton, a brother, Ferdinand Wieland, of Oregon City, Ore., and a sister, Mrs. Mary Foe of Tulsa, Okla. Three sisters preceded her in death.

The following relatives and friends from away were here for the funeral: Mr. and Mrs. Jake Nickel, Sr., Mr. and Mrs. William Nickel and Mr. Jake Nickel, Jr., of Sheboygan, Mrs. Brokaw of Milwaukee, Mrs. F. Salter of Waldo, Mr. and Mrs. R. Markell, Mrs. John Isydorek and daughter, Beverly, of Minneapolis, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. H. Voight of Wausau and others from Spencer and Colby.

Nickel, Dora (7 Feb. 1888 – 14 Oct. 1977)

* Unity – Mrs. Leonard E. (Dora) Nickel, 89, of Unity, died at 8:14 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, where she was a patient since Sept. 10.

Services will be at Trinity Lutheran Church at 1:30 p.m. Monday with the Rev. Elton Moore officiating. Burial will be at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.

The body will lie in state at the Rux-Lulloff Funeral Home, Colby, after 6 p.m. Sunday.

Mrs. Nickel, nee Schwantes, was born Feb. 7, 1888, at Spencer and was married to Leonard Edward Nickel May 1, 1907 at Spencer.

She received her education in Spencer schools. She and her husband farmed east of Unity until 1942, when they retired and moved to the village of Unity.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Ladies Aid Society and Royal Neighbors of America.

Mr. Nickel died Sept. 6, 1974.

Surviving daughters are Mrs. Harold (Vera) Schade of Milwaukee and Mrs. Anthony (Bernice) Yakaites of Marshfield. There are five grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Surviving brothers and sisters are Mrs. Charles (Anna) Griepentrog, Colby; Mrs. Elmer (Elizabeth) Nelson, Chippewa Falls; Mrs. John (Margaret) Dorek of Minneapolis; and George Schwantes, Spencer.

She was predeceased by two brothers, a sister and a child.

A daughter, who died in infancy, two brothers, and two sisters preceded him in death.

* Unity – Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Trinity Lutheran Church for George Nickel, 84, who died at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, at the home of his son, Leonard Nickel, 4 ˝ miles east of Unity, where he had been making his home. Death was caused by old age complications.

The Rev. J. A. Olson will officiate at the services and burial will be made in the Lutheran cemetery at Unity.

Mr. Nickel was born in Germantown Jan. 6, 1855. He was married at Spencer May 8, 1884, to Anna Wieland, who preceded him in death in the spring of 1934.

After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Nickel settled on a tract of land, which is the present farm of their son, Leonard. In 1915 they retired from farming and moved to the village of Unity.

Besides his son Leonard, Mr. Nickel is survived by three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

* Unity – Services have been set for 1:30 p.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Unity for Leonard Edward Nickel, 89, of Unity, who died at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield at 2:30 p.m. Friday. He had been hospitalized since Aug. 24.

The Rev. James Primley, pastor, will conduct the Monday service, and burial will be made in the church cemetery.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. Sunday at the Lulloff Funeral Home in Colby, where a prayer service for the family will be held at 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

Mr. Nickel was born May 16, 1885, in the town of Brighton, Marathon County, and received his education there. He farmed with his parents and also did logging and lumbering.

He was married May 1, 1907, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spencer to the former Dora Schwantes, who survives him. The couple observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1957, their 60th anniversary in 1967, and their 65th anniversary in 1972.

They farmed in the town of Brighton until retiring and moving to Unity in 1943. Mr. Nickel worked here as a carpenter and also spent the summer of 1951 in Alaska at that trade.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Unity.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Harold (Vera) Schade, Milwaukee, and Mrs. Anthony (Bernice) Yakaites, Marshfield; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

A daughter and a sister preceded him in death.
