Schneider, August Charles (2 Aug. 1907 - ? May 1946)

* The body of August C. Schneider, 39, of Wisconsin Rapids, who had been missing since May 21, was found last Saturday in his automobile which was parked in a wasteland area in the Town of Plover, Portage County.

The coroner ruled the death as suicide. Schneider had attached a hose to the exhaust of his car and ran the deadly carbon monoxide fumes into his coupe, in which all the windows were closed.

The badly decomposed body was found by a party of squirrel hunters Saturday afternoon.

August Charles Schneider, son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Schneider, was born August 2, 1907 in the Town of Eau Pleine. He was married to Mabel Cecelia Erickson on June 19, 1935.

They lived on a farm in the Town of Unity for awhile, then moved to Riplinger and about two years ago they moved to Wisconsin Rapids, where he lived at the time of his death.

He leaves to mourn his demise his wife Mabel and daughter Joyce Ann, his father, three brothers, Edward of Pewaukee; Albert and Theodore of Stratford; and one sister, Agnes. His mother and one sister preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Tuesday with private services at the grave conducted by Rev. Ferguson of the Unity Methodist Church. Burial took place in Brighton cemetery.

Pallbearers were Andrew Jost, Arvid Talcott, Peter Jost, Walter Beidel, Albert Reckner and Edmund Fuller.

Schneider, Frederick C. (5 Nov. 1917 – 5 Aug. 1949)

* The lifeless body of Frederick C. Schneider, a former Colby citizen and son of Mrs. George Schneider, Sr., of Colby, was found hanging in the shower room of his home in LaCrosse. Schneider was employed as lineman by the Northern States Power Company and had just recently been transferred from Owen to LaCrosse. His wife was still in Owen at the time of his death.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the First Evangelical and Reformed church in Colby, Rev. F. P. Puhlmann officiating, and internment was made in the Colby cemetery. Members of the V.F.W. and Legion posts took part in the military rites. Pall bearers were Norman Augustine, Noel Schelling, Francis Zassenhaus, Frederick Schwierske, David Stieber and Milford Frome. Flowers were in charge of Mrs. Otto Koeppen, Patsy Reeves, Mrs. Ed Frome, Mrs. Hugo Frome, Mrs. Carl Borchert, Mrs. Carl Fischer, Mrs. Harold Kademan, Mrs. Angus Lamont, Jr., Mrs. Norbert Diedrich, Mrs. Erwin Kademan, Mrs. Francis Zassenhaus and Mrs. Theo Lueloff. The firing squad consisted of Arnold Strathman, Herbert Hederer, Harold Kademan, Orville Baumgart, Edward Allmann, Orville Davis, with Howard Rannow in charge. V.F.W. color bearers were Michael Stieber, Stuart Paxon, Angus Lamont, Jr., John Frane. Irene Strathman was V.F.W. Auxiliary color bearer. Legion color bearers were Lawrence Mueller, Junior Tesmer, Frank Goeltz and Ed Frome. Everett Mossing was bugler.

The deceased was born in Colby on November 5, 1917, thus reaching the age of 32 years and five months. He served in the U.S. army during World War II and was married to Dela S. Poppe at Withee on May 28th, 1949.

Surviving are his wife, his mother, a step-daughter, Carol Ann, four brothers and three sisters – George and Herman Schneider of Colby, Emma Hertel of Kiel, Pauline Glenzer of Colby, Robert Schneider of Greenwood, Alfred Schneider of Ladysmith, and Gladys Schumann of Herreid, S. Dak.


Schneider, Martin (25 July 1865 – 23 July 1950)

* Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 at the home and at 2 o’clock at the Methodist Church for Martin Schneider, 85, of the Town of Eau Pleine. Mr. Schneider passed away of old age complications at his home on Sunday, July 23. Rev. F. J. Smith officiated at the services with burial in the Unity cemetery.

Mr. Schneider was born in Brown County July 25, 1865, and was married to Clara Kroggel June 6, 1891. Mrs. Schneider passed away in 1938.

He came to his present home in 1876 from Brown County. He was a member of the Methodist Church.

Surviving children include Edward, Pewaukee; and Agnes, Gilbert and Theodore at home.

There is one grandchild. Two children and three half sisters preceded him in death.

Mr. and Mrs. Ted Domer sang “Does Jesus Care,” “Heartaches,” and “Beyond The Sunset,” with Mrs. Tom Loughead accompanying on the piano.

Attending from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. Art Belanger, Athens; Mrs. Hilbert Juedes, Spencer; Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert ? fahl, Wausau; Joyce Christianson, Wisconsin Rapids; and Mr. and Mrs. Edward Schneider, Pewaukee.
