----Source: Colby Phonograph (Colby, Clark County, Wis.) Thursday, 12 Mar. 1931

* Fredrich William Schultz, one of the early pioneers of this section, died last Sunday, March 8, kidney trouble and old age of five years duration being the cause of his departure to the heavenly goal. Funeral services were held at the St. John’s Evangelical church, Tuesday, March 10th, Rev. G. F. Hahn officiating, and internment was made in the Colby cemetery. The pall bearers were Ed. Luchterhand, Charles Feind, Morris Kasper, Charles Schulte, Charles Koppen and Fred Dallmann. The flower girls were Leona Lube and Verna Lube.

The deceased was born May 19th, 1848 at Ukermark, Brandenburg, Germany, thus reaching the age of eighty-two years, nine months and seventeen days. He was married to Wilhelmine Lavine in Germany and sailed for the United States in 1869 with his wife and child several years later. He settled in Sheboygan county where he worked as a day laborer for five years after which he came to Colby and bought forty acres of wild land. He cleared this land and built his little home from the logs which he cut. The union with his first wife was blessed with seven children, three of whom are still living, namely: Mrs. Tent Schenider of Milwaukee, Wm. Schultz of Cornell and Mrs. Mina Herring of Walla Walla, Wash. His first wife died in 1883 and he was married again on Oct. 2, 1884, to Wilhelmine Weiland in Colby which union was blessed with two children – Mrs. Mary Lube and Mr. Ernest F. Schultz, both of Colby. In 1913, he sold his farm and he and his wife made their home with their son, Ernest F. Schultz, and family until the time of their death, his second wife passing on to the distant shore April 13, 1924.

Besides his sons and daughters, his death is mourned by two brothers and one sister – William Schultz of Plymouth, August Schultz of Colby and Ricke Tesmer of Colby. Also twenty-four grand children and four great grand children.

The out of town people here for the funeral were Mr. Wm. Schultz of Plymouth, Gottlieb Schultz of Spencer, August Tesmer of Spencer and Mrs. Gust Hintz of Abbotsford.

The deceased was a good Christian and had always been a faithful member of the St. John’s Evangelical church which he helped build. He always remembered the hospitable ways of the pioneers, and invariably, was a good neighbor and his family circle was a happy one. He filled the various relations of life and filled them well, and when he died, full of years, ready to be gathered to his fathers, his best monument will be the good report he left behind him in the community in which he lived for fifty-seven years.
