Albert G. Wiedenhoeft (3 Apr. 1884 – 26 Mar. 1960)

* Albert G. Wiedenhoeft died Saturday morning at 12:30 A.M. at the home of his son, Gilbert, in Unity, following a lingering illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in Zion Lutheran Church in Colby, Rev. William Christian officiating, and internment was made in the Colby Cemetery. Pall bearers were James Brunkhorst, Randall Sterzinger, Lawrence Mueller, Robert Leisinger, William Schultz and Harold Hardrath.

Mr. Wiedenhoeft was born in Dodge County, near Fond du Lac, on April 3, 1884, and moved to Colby in 1889. In his earlier years, he farmed in this area and then, for 10 years, he operated a general store in Colby which he sold to Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Sabler and now is the “Like New Shop.”

He began driving school bus for the Colby District in 1941, completing 14 years of service in 1955 at the age of 71. His traffic record for 250,000 miles of school bus driving for 14 years was unblemished and sickness kept him from duty for less than two weeks. Five years ago he and Mrs. Wiedenhoeft moved to Unity.

He married Evelyn Franz in Zion Lutheran Church at Colby on Dec. 20, 1906.

At one time he served as supervisor of the town of Colby. He was held in high esteem by all who knew him for his fine honest and industrious character, and, because of his congenial disposition, had many friends.

Surviving are his wife; two sons, Arthur of Colby and Gilbert of Unity; a daughter, Mrs. Fred (Mildred) Pauls of Schofield; four grand children; one great grand child; a brother, Herman of Colby; four sisters, Mrs. Charles (Amanda) Feind, Mrs. Albert (Augusta) Franz and Mrs. Ed (Louise) Feind, all of Colby, and Mrs. Roger (Anna) Nickel of Lakewood, Ohio. One son, Lloyd, and two brothers, preceded him in death.

Out-of-town people here for the funeral were Mrs. August Belter of San Bernardino, Calif., Mrs. Roger Nickels of Cleveland, Ohio, Barbara Franz of Milwaukee, Mrs. Walter Kobelius of Merrill, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Franz of Bloomer, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Sill, Mr. and Mrs. Herb Nelson and Mrs. Art Nelson of Chippewa Falls, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Krohn and Mrs. A. Christensen of Minneapolis, Mr. and Mrs. Julius Feind and family of Rochester, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Orland Feind of Marshfield, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Heinrich, Mr. and Mrs. Werner Erickson, Mrs. Jerry Dahm and Louis Pauls of Schofield, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Neibauer and Mr. and Mrs. M. Vandehey of Wisconsin Rapids and many friends and relatives from Abbotsford, Unity and Colby.

Gustav J. Wiedenhoeft (17 Sept. 1886 – 30 Mar. 1933)

* Funeral services for Gustav J. Wiedenhoeft, prominent town of Colby farmer, whose death was reported last week, were held at the Zion Lutheran church Sunday afternoon, Rev. O. Hoffmann officiating, and internment was made in the Colby cemetery. Six nephews acted as pall bearers and were Arthur Wiedenhoeft, Gilbert Wiedenhoeft, Clarence Wiedenhoeft, Alvin Wiedenhoeft, Ernest Feind and Ernest Schultz. Six nieces acted as flower girls and were Verna Feind, Irma Feind, Irene Feind, Veleta Feind, Mildred Wiedenhoeft, Margaret Franz.

The deceased was born Sept. 17th, 1886, in the town of Elroy, Dodge county, thus reaching the age of forty-six years, six months and thirteen days. He came to Colby about thirty-three years ago. He was married to Anna Pokallus in Colby June 10, 1904. He passed on to the heavenly goal Thursday morning, March 30, pneumonia of one week’s duration being the cause of his departure.

He is survived by his wife, his mother, Mrs. John Wiedenhoeft, and the following brothers and sisters: Wm. Wiedenhoeft, Anoka, Minnesota; Herman Wiedenhoeft, Colby; Mrs. Chas. Feind, Colby; Albert Wiedenhoeft, Colby; Mrs. Albert Franz, Colby; Mrs. Roger Nickel, Cleveland, Ohio.

The out of town people here for the funeral were Wm. Wiedenhoeft, Anoka, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Pokallus, Stetsonville; Mr. and Mrs. B. Pechstein, Medford; Mrs. Albert Pokallus and children, Abbotsford; Mrs. Laurence Prien, Weyerhaeuser; Mr. Fred Bloohn, Oakfield; Miss Minnie Bloohn, South Byron; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Westpahl, Byron; Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Buckschlager, Withee; Mr. and Mrs. J. Hoger, Rice Lake.

The deceased was a faithful member of the Zion Lutheran church, a good husband, neighbor and citizen and had a host of friends which was exemplified by the large funeral. At all times, under all circumstances, he walked in the well beaten path of righteousness and when fully conscious that he was nearing the last of earth, he appeared to be fully impressed with the idea that at the end of time eternity began, and that the bright faith which sustained him during those trying hours of suffering would only grow brighter and brighter as he journeyed toward the Infinite.


Herman J. Wiedenhoeft (1877 – 8 June 1960)

* Funeral services were held for Herman J. Wiedenhoeft, age 82, at the Evangelical and Reformed church Sunday afternoon, Rev. V. O. Grosshuesch officiating, and burial was made in the Colby cemetery. Pall bearers were Herbert Hederer, Maynard Bauer, Arvin Stock, Edgar Laux, Elmore Dehne and Lawrence Mueller.

Marvin Schnabel sang “Near to the Heart of God” and “I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say,” accompanied by Karen Klessig at the organ.

Mr. Wiedenhoeft was born at Lomira in 1877. He came to Colby at the age of 16 years and worked as a building contractor here for several years. He married Anna Plutte on August 27, 1903, in the town of Colby. They operated the Colby Park Pavilion for 30 years. He retired from active work in 1944.

Surviving are his wife; two sons, Clarence of Cable and Alvin of Colby; one daughter, Mrs. Bernard (Goldie) Walter of Chippewa Falls; four grand children and one great grand child; four sisters, Mrs. Charles Feind, Mrs. Albert Franz, all of Colby, and Mrs. Roger Nichel of Lakewood, Ohio. Three brothers preceded him in death.

At one time, Mr. Wiedenhoeft was supervisor of the town of Hull. He was well known for his fine Christian character, and, being of a kindly and friendly disposition had many friends.

Out of town people here for the services were Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Walter and family, Reinhold Voge and Miss Olga Voge of Chippewa Falls, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Posepny, William Wiedenhoeft and Miss Verna Feind of Milwaukee, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Lenz, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Panzer and Fred Bloom of Brownsville, Mrs. Emma Jandres of Fond du Lac, Miss Marcella Franz of Seattle, Wash., Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Thede, Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Reckner, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Flink, Mr. and Mrs. Al Dondorf, Mr. and Mrs. Orland Feind, Miss Viola Spann and Floyd Duvall of Marshfield, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Wiedenhoeft of Cable, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Ashmore of Hill City, Minn., and Mrs. Ray Anderson of Tampa, Fla.

William Wiedenhoeft (24 Dec. 1872 – 19 Jan. 1953)

* William Wiedenhoeft, a former resident of this community, died Monday evening of a heart attack at the age of 80 years at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Asmore, with whom he had been making his home in Anoka, Minn. Funeral services will be held this Thursday afternoon at the Lulloff Funeral Home, Rev. O. Hoffmann officiating, and internment will be made in the Colby cemetery.

Mr. Wiedenhoeft was born here on December 24, 1872. His wife died in 1948.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Earl Asmore of Anoka, Minn., Mrs. C. J. Wiedenhoeft of Milwaukee and Mrs. Meyer Muus of McVille, N.C.; three grand children; two brothers, Herman of Colby and Albert of Unity; four sisters, Mrs. Albert Franz, Mrs. Charles Feind and Mrs. Edward Franz, all of Colby, and Mrs. R. F. Nickel of Ohio.
