* Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church for Edward M. Winkler, 71, a lifetime resident of this area, who died of a heart attack Friday morning at the home of his son, Edward Jr. in Laona. The Rev. Claude Vander Stoep officiated at the rites and burial was made in the Lutheran cemetery.

Pallbearers were Carl Mellgren, Lester Safemaster, Orville Westberg, Roland Safemaster, Nels Safemaster and Lloyd Ringquist.

Flowers were in charge of Mrs. Bernard Eckes, Mrs. Nels Safemaster, Mrs. Roland Safemaster, Mrs. Orville Westberg, Mrs. Lester Safemaster, Mrs. John Beyer, Miss Carol Speich, Mrs. Warren Justman, Mrs. Fred Justman, Mrs. Gene Barnett, Mrs. Ray Johnson, Mrs. Glen Johnson, Mrs. Lester Bruesewitz and Mrs. Frank Budde.

The church choir sang “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Beyond the Sunset” with Mrs. Henry Binning as organist.

Mr. Winkler was born August 6, 1883 at Unity and received his education at the Romeo School.

On May 10, 1911, he was married at Spencer to Thea Williamson, who died April 14, 1950. The couple lived on a farm east of here until six years ago, when they retired and moved to the village.

Surviving are three sons, Edward, Laona, John, address unknown, and Norman, Unity; two daughters, Mrs. Milton (Emily) Wolfe, Loyal; Mrs. George (Evelyn) Jeske, Stratford; two brothers, Joseph, Marshfield, and John, California; a sister, Mrs. John Bever, Unity; and nine grandchildren.

* Unity – Robert E. “Bob” Winkler, 61, Unity, died Sunday Jan. 13, 2003, at Saint Joseph’s Hospital’s emergency room in Marshfield.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 17, 2003, at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, town of Brighton, Marathon County. The Rev. John Clasen will officiate. Pallbearers will be Jedd Winkler, Jeff Winkler, Joel Winkler, Ryan Winkler, Brad Suckow, Brian Suckow and Chad Sukow.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Community Funeral Home, Colby, and again from 10 a.m. until service time Friday at the church.

Bob was born April 12, 1941, in Colby, to Norman and Dorothy (Schultz) Winkler. He graduated from Colby High School. Bob and Karen Klessig were married Nov. 4, 1961, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Unity.

He hauled milk for Mandel Dairy for several years. In 1963 they took over the family farm which they operated until the present time. He enjoyed polka music, bowling and deer hunting and loved his family, especially his grandchildren. Bob was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Bob is lovingly survived by his family, his wife Karen Winkler of Unity; his sons, Kevin (Pamela) Winkler of Unity; Darren (Patricia) Winkler of Deerfield and Kyle Winkler of Verona; his grandchildren, Cody Winkler, Mikenna Winkler, Kari (John Wagner) Kilburg, Amy Kilburg and Ashley Kilburg; his sister, Pat (Jerry) Sukow of Unity; his brothers, Dennis (Jeanne) Winkler of Green Bay; David (Mary Jo) Winkler of Stanley; and James (Jeanette) Winkler of Appleton.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, a niece, Andrea Winkler, and a nephew, Curt Sukow.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given and the family will designate them at a later date.

* Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Trinity Lutheran Church for Mrs. Edward M. Winkler, 60, who died Friday of a cerebral hemorrhage at her home at 1:15 A.M. Rev. Charles Witt, of Marshfield officiated and burial was in the Trinity Lutheran cemetery.

The body was taken to the Lulloff Funeral Home to lie in state until 10 a.m. when it was taken to the church to lie in state until time of services.

Mrs. Alfred Johnson, Mrs. Ansel Messer, Arlene Gustafson, Helen Djerf, Joan Dehn and Gail Edblom sang “Beyond the Sunset” and “God Will Take Care of You” and they were accompanied by Mrs. Henry Binning on the organ.

Pallbearers were Lester Safemaster, Rolland Safemaster, Carl Melgrin, Orville Westberg, Lloyd Ringquist and Clarence Buetsch.

In charge of flowers were Mrs. Frank Budde, Mrs. Bernard Eykes, Mrs. Clarence Buetsch, Mrs. Lorraine Flink, Mrs. Milton Koch, Mrs. Lester Bruesewitz, Mrs. Lloyd Ringquist, Mrs. Orville Westberg, and Mrs. Rolland Safemaster.

Mrs. Winkler, the former Thea A. Williamson, was born January 30, 1890, in Unity. She received her education in the Romeo School and was married May 10, 1911, at Spencer, to Edward M. Winkler. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and of the Ladies Aid Society.

She is survived by her husband, three sons, John, Holcombe; Norman, Unity; and Edward, Stevens Point; two daughters, Mrs. Milton (Emily) Wolfe, Loyal; and Mrs. Geo. (Evelyn) Jeske. Marshfield; one brother, William Williamson, Unity; two sisters, Mrs. Herman Schwantes, Colby; and Mrs. Gust Ringquist, Unity; and eight grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were a brother, two sisters and her parents.

Out of town people here for the funeral included Mr. and Mrs. Gene Barnett, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Ervin and son Terry, Miss Pauline Melgrin and Mrs. Eileen Johnson of Madison; Mr. and Mrs. Worden Burnett of Menasha; Mr. Russell Ringquist of Beloit; Mr. and Mrs. Nels Safemaster, Pewaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Milton Koch and family, Westboro; Mr. Peter Korntved, Rhinelander; Mr. and Mrs. Peter Korntved, Mrs. George Speich, Greenwood; Mrs. Julia Justman, of Stratford; Mr. Glendon Johnson, Abbotsford; Miss Florence Seczka, Athens; and many relatives and friends from nearby towns.

* Mrs. Ed Winkler died at her home in Unity Friday morning at the age of 60 years, after a lingering illness. Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon at the Trinity Lutheran Church at Unity, Rev. Witt officiating, and internment was made in the parish cemetery. She is survived by the following children: Norman of Unity, John of Holcombe, Edward of Central State Teachers’ College of Stevens Point, Mrs. Milton (Emily) Wolfe of Loyal and Mrs. George [there was no ending to this article in this paper].
