"Grant County Progressive", Muscoda, WI - 18 May 1917 - Submitted By James A. "Jim" Honer
Mr John Frederic Honer passed away at St. Mary's Hospital, Madison, Wis., on May 13, 1917. He was born Sept. 22, 1861, in Lower Town, Muscoda, Wis. , the son of Mathias and Catherine Maria (Michel) Honer. He was married May 24, 1892 to Miss Anna Gies. To this union six children were born. One daughter, Mrs. Gertrude (Albert) Zeller, and five sons, Otto, Carl, Frederick (Ardella), Clement and Lawrence. He was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Order of Foresters.
Mr. Honer spent all his life near the place where he was born. He at all times, under all circumstances, walked in the well beaten path of righteousness, and when nearing the last of earth, he appeared to be fully impressed with the idea that at the end of time, eternity began, and that the bright faith which sustained him during those trying hours of suffering would only grow brighter as he journeyed toward the Infinite, and the final gloom of death dispelled by the radiance of God's love.
Could all live the just and upright life that John Honer lived, and died in his trusting faith, death could be no longer be called the King of Terrors, for he inspired no terror there.
He leaves to mourn his death, besides the six children, a devoted wife, an aged mother and four sisters. The sisters are: Mrs. Mary Effinger, Mrs. Kate Witherel, Mrs john Feaster and Mrs. Clara Kenyon. The sorrowing family have the sympathy of a host of friends in their grief.
The funeral services were held at the St. John's Catholic church Wednesday, Rev. Kaiser officiating. Interment in the Muscoda Catholic cemetery.
