The Weekly Wisconsin Patriot August 20, 1859 - Sub by a Friend of Free Genealogy

The Janesville Gazette says that, as Mr. Henry Cowie of Johnstown, was cutting grain with a four-horse reaper, the neck-yoke broke; and the near hind horse hacked, thus causing its hind legs to come in contact with the sickle, which severed one entirely and the other, partially off. The horse was put out of its misery by being immediately shot.

Beloit --- Gasper Buffa, who has lived in Beloit five years, attended school and worked in shops, is missing. He left Beloit three weeks ago for Italy to join the Italian army. He had with him considerable money. He met Beloit people in Chicago, and a New York friend got a telegram from him on board a train between Chicago and New York city, asking him to meet him. Since then nothing has been heard from him.

STATE NEWS IN BRIEF
Beloit --- The fact that Mrs. P. S. Perkins, eighty-four years old and blind, was awake saved several members of her household from suffocation by gas from a defective pipe. Discovering the house full of gas, she aroused those whose condition was not too serious, and they secured help for others. Two persons were unconscious from gas when taken into the air.
