CIVIL WAR HEROES
BURIED IN CITY (Marshfield)
----Source: Marshfield News (Marshfield, Wood County, Wis.)
23 May 1918
THEIR NAMES ARE GIVEN BELOW – NAME OF ONE COULD NOT BE LEARNED.
Next Thursday is Memorial day, the day set apart by the government
to do honor to those who fought in the sixties to maintain the unity
of the nation. The day will be observed in this city with
appropriate exercises.
Through the courtesy of W. G. Hinman, adjutant of the G.A.R. post,
we have been enabled to present a list of the Civil War veterans who
are buried in the local cemeteries. It numbers 48 names. He made an
especial effort to cover every deceased veteran in the city and with
the exception of one, whose identity he has so far been unable to
establish, believes the list is complete, but should it not be so he
requests that he be notified.
Mr. Hinman stated that the soldier whose name he was unable to learn
lies in a grave next to that of Peter Widman in the city cemetery.
American flags will be place at each soldier’s grave on Memorial day
by members of the G.A.R. Post.
