A distressing accident in which a young woman lost her life, occurred at Duckworth Summitt, Doddridge county, Wednesday morning. As the easternbound accommodation train was turning the curve at the east end of the cut near the watchman's house, it struck a young lady by the name of Hanley, killing her instantly. It appears that she was endeavoring to cross the track, as the engineer said she was trying to get on the track when he saw her, but was so close he could not stop his train. The young lady was a sister of the watchman and was about 30 or 32 years of age.  [January 19, 1891, The Wheeling Daily Register - submitted by: Dena Whitesell]
