Crushed to Death
The Fearful fate Befalling a Summers County Citizen
On last Thursday Mr. jack Whitaker was killedby a falling rock while at work on the tramroad up Madam's creek, in Summers county. For some time Mr. Whitaker has been in the employ of Miller & Co at their lumber and stave works, on Madam's creek. On the day of the accident which resulted in his death he, with five or six others, had gone out to repair the tramroad, and while at work loosed a rock weighing some five tons, it rolled down down and caught the unfortunate man, crushing the life out of him instantly, leaving the body a shapeless mass. The deceased was a native of Mercer county, but had lived in Summers county for several years.
