Death of a good Citizen
Blacksville, W. VA., March 15, 1875
Editors of the Register.
It is which regret that we are compelled to announce the death of William
Thomas, Sr. which occurred on last Friday, at the age of 87 years. He was
born and raised in Monongalia county, W VA and therefore was one of the oldest
citizens of the county if not of the state. He had the misfortune to lose
his father, who was killed by the Indians while he was yet an infant in the
cradle and was therefore left to grapple with the world alone, but by being
honest, industrious, economical and temperate, he acquired a handsome fortune
and numerous frields, who mourn his loss. He was a member of the Baptist
Church; a true Christian, and also a life long Democrate, who was always
to be found at the polls depositing his vote in favor of honesty, liberty
and the supremacy of the white race. He was a constant reader of your valuable
paper.
