The Flood in Pleasants County.
St. Marys, W. VA., Aug. 2, 1875.
Editors of the Register:
There is probably one of the most disastrous floods raging on Middle creek that was ever known. There has been running past here since daylight dwelling houses, grist mills, saw mills, rafts, pig-pens, chickens, grain in the stack, and thousands of rails. The river and creek are raising rapidly, and it is still raining. The mount of the creek was full of rafts and boats last night and this morning they are nearly all gone. One fleet containing fourteen creek rafts broke loose last night, with two men on them, and being without any skiff they were drifted down the river some ten miles when they met the steamer Andes, which landed two pieces of the raft and brought the men back to this place free of charge. Thanks to the gentlemanly commander, "Captain Charley." The amount of damage done can scarcely be imagined. The whole country up the creek as as far as Middlebourne, if not farther, must be totally devastated, as the amount of drift of all kinds running almost beggars description. CITIZEN.
